All in about $900 ($589 + $200 for the SSD + tax). My 2012 is getting a little long in the tooth and I'm going to want to upgrade some time.

You can do crazy fast (180-220 fps) hardware encoding via VideoToolbox for HD content (x264/265) but the file size and quality is sub optimal. Using software encoding 264->265 1080p runs about 30fps, which isn’t bad!

Software RAID is usually much better performance-wise than Hardware as well anyway. I run a LaCie 5Big TB2 enclosure with RAID 5, and it is awesome.
