Would I regret buying the Mac Mini M2 (8GB version)?
WEBApr 1, 2023 · For my needs, 8GB is an overkill. I decided to buy an M2 Mini with 8GB instead of a feel good configuration of 16GB. My M2 mini will easily run a couple of Safari tabs, several Microsoft Edge windows and tabs, Firefox, Mail, Calculator. Memory pressure usually stays in the 40% range, memory usage is 6GB out of 8GB.

WEBJan 24, 2023 · Green with 32GB RAM on my iMac with 25GB in use. I am not opposed to going down to 16GB on the M2 Pro Mac Mini if it is simply unnecessary and overkill due to the effectiveness of swap with the unified memory. Buy the 16GB one. You have a week and a half to put it through its paces to see how much RAM you need.

WEBSep 18, 2023 · I'm with Fishrrman on this. I bought a Mac Mini M2 Pro base model after much deliberation. I decided that the 16Gb memory, 512Gb storage (speedier than 256 version, I believe) and extra ports plus the Pro chip, 10-core CPU and 16-core GPU and enhanced memory bandwidth all added up to convincing features for a machine I hope to use as a work and 'leisure' tool for five, six or even seven years.

WEBJan 24, 2023 · According to this Xcodebenchmark test, 10-core M2 Pro scores same 85-sec time whether 16 or 32GB, but I'm guessing that's purely assessing build and compilation. It is still faster than the 89-sec time of a base Mac Studio so I'll stick with the Mini, whether 16 or 32GB. Thank you for sharing development experiences.
