Hurricane Kirk strengthened Wednesday into a Category 3 storm in the Atlantic Ocean but has not yet deemed a threat to land, forecasters said.

Although Kirk is forecast to turn north and stay over the open Atlantic, the NHC said the storm could cause "life-threatening surf and rip current conditions" that could reach portions of the Leeward Islands on Friday, Bermuda and the Greater Antilles on Saturday, and the east coast of the United States and the Bahamas on Sunday.

Hurricane Kirk strengthened Wednesday into a Category 3 storm in the Atlantic Ocean and was expected to grow rapidly into a major hurricane, forecasters said.

Kirk became a hurricane in the eastern Atlantic Ocean on Tuesday. The storm could strengthen into a major hurricane by Thursday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

Less than one day after Hurricane Helene devastated several states in the Southern U.S., the Atlantic is already home to a new storm.

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect for either storm however, the waves from Issac could cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions in the Azores

Hurricane Kirk strengthened late Wednesday to a Category 3 hurricane as it undergoes rapid intensification in the Atlantic. But forecasters are closely monitoring one particular tropical disturbance developing in a region of the Caribbean where Helene took shape.
