President-elect Donald Trump will name Howard Lutnick, the co-chair of his transition team, to the post of commerce secretary, a source familiar with the matter told The Post Tuesday.

Donald Trump has been somewhat cagey about his economic plans — especially tariffs — since voters elected him president. That is raising the stakes in a drawn-out contest to become his treasury secretary while focusing Wall Street's attention on other key posts.

An advocate for imposing wide-ranging tariffs, Lutnick said in September “tariffs are an amazing tool for the president to use — we need to protect the American worker.”
