Comcast has formally unveiled plans to spin out most of its linear cable networks (except Bravo) to shareholders in a separate company, a move that President Mike Cavanagh said puts all of NBCUniversal “on a new growth trajectory.

On Wednesday morning, the media giant confirmed that it is spinning off most of its cable channels, including MSNBC and CNBC, into a separate publicly traded company. The new company doesn’t have a formal name yet — Comcast is simplycalling it “SpinCo” — a suitable label since employees’ heads are spinning with questions.

Bravo, the NBC broadcast network and the Peacock streaming service are among the assets expected to remain part of Comcast. Mark Lazarus, the current chair of the NBCUniversal Media Group, is expected to lead the new company, according to the Journal and CNBC, and the process is expected to be completed in about a year.
