Comcast has formally unveiled plans to spin out most of its linear cable networks (except Bravo) to shareholders in a separate company, a move that President Mike Cavanagh said puts all of NBCUniversal “on a new growth trajectory.

Media giant Comcast officially announced on Wednesday that it is spinning off some of its most well-known cable-oriented outlets from NBCUniversal.

On Wednesday morning, the media giant confirmed that it is spinning off most of its cable channels, including MSNBC and CNBC, into a separate publicly traded company. The new company doesn’t have a formal name yet — Comcast is simplycalling it “SpinCo” — a suitable label since employees’ heads are spinning with questions.
