The Denver Broncos have hired former New Orleans Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi as their new special teams coordinator, a league source confirmed to The Athletic on Friday.

Rizzi was a candidate to become the Saints' next coach and interviewed for the position after the season. In 2024, he led New Orleans to a 3-5 record after Dennis Allen was fired following a 2-7 start. Rizzi was promoted to the interim role after serving as the team's special teams coordinator for five-plus seasons.

The Denver Broncos have added to their coaching staff. Head coach Sean Payton has hired Darren Rizzi as the team's new special teams coordinator according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The pair worked together for two seasons when Payton was head coach of the Saints before a short-lived retirement.
