Deputy's suspected killer dies in shootout after injuring K-9, manhunt with US marshals
A manhunt ensued and during the search, a U.S. Marshals Service K-9 officer named Rocky alerted to a dumpster behind a shopping center causing Davis to emerge from his hiding spot and shoot the K-9 twice, police said during a news conference. Davis was fatally shot when U.S. Marshals Service deputies returned fire.

Community mourns loss of Brazoria County Deputy Jesus Vargas after shootout
HOUSTON ( KIAH) — The law enforcement community is mourning the loss of Brazoria County Deputy Jesus Vargas. This is the first time a deputy from that department has been killed in the line of duty in 14 years. Vargas was part of a team that went to arrest Robert Lee Davis on an aggravated assault charge Wednesday.

The officer who died was identified as Jesus Vargas, a 17-year veteran of the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office. Police later killed the suspected shooter, 56-year-old Robert Davis III, after an hours-long manhunt.
