Hundreds of people defied a curfew to stage demonstrations in India's northeastern state of Manipur over the weekend and 23 were arrested for violence as tensions between two ethnic communities flared up again.

Violence has once again disrupted the fragile peace of the north-eastern state at the centre of ethnic violence.

The Manipur government extended internet suspension in the state on Monday as violence continues to escalate in various regions, with a curfew also being enforced in certain areas. The decision to extend the suspension of internet services is aimed at curbing the spread of misinformation and preventing further unrest amidst the ongoing violence.

CRPF Director-General Anish Dayal is heading to Manipur as violence escalates due to ethnic tensions. Militants have attacked a CRPF camp, resulting in casualties and heightened security measures in areas like Bishnupur and Jiribam.
