Parts of the world will see a special annular "ring of fire" solar eclipse. Other areas will see a partial eclipse.

A “ring of fire" eclipse of the sun will cross the Pacific and the tips of Argentina and Chile. During Wednesday's annular solar eclipse, the moon will obscure all but a ring-shaped sliver of the sun.

On Oct. 2, an annular solar eclipse will be visible from the Southern Hemisphere. During this event, the moon doesn't completely cover the sun from our perspective on Earth, so it leaves a "ring of fire" around the moon.
