Several Montreal-area school boards and institutions have announced closures as the biggest winter storm of the season cloaks the city in snow. Hundreds of flights out of Montreal have also been cancelled.

A huge winter storm is expected to descend across parts of Ontario and Quebec later on Wednesday and quickly spread across Atlantic Canada over the next two days, prompting Environment Canada to issue a flurry of weather warnings.

A major winter storm disrupted travel plans, closed schools and shuttered city services across Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces Thursday, as communities dug out from a wintry cocktail that brought upwards of 20 centimetres of snow.

Storm Warning remains in effect for Montreal and most of southern Quebec. Radar is showing at least a few more hours of steady precipitation to our southwest that will move through the Montreal region through midday.
