Five out of 10 Austin City Council seats were up for grabs in the November election. Four of those races have been called, and one will head to a runoff in December.

Early election results show incumbent Austin Mayor Kirk Watson winning; he championed an overhaul of the city’s land use code.

Three incumbents are facing challengers this election cycle. Two newcomers are hoping to take over districts in North and West Austin.

Mayor Kirk Watson is defending his seat against four opponents. He needs to earn 50% of the vote, plus one vote, to avoid a runoff election in December.

There will be some familiar faces and some new ones on the Austin City Council next year. We learned some of the winners, but we won't know who will occupy other seats until a runoff election in December.
