Hurricane Helene has weakened to a Tropical Storm over Georgia with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph (110 kph), the National Hurricane Center said.

Helene made landfall late on Thursday in Florida’s Big Bend region as a Category 4 Hurricane. It weakened Friday morning to a tropical storm with sustained winds of 70 mph.

Helene is now a tropical storm as it sweeps across Georgia. Metro Atlanta is contending with dangerous flooding and the ongoing threat of powerful wind gusts. Right now: Nearly 34,000 Georgia Power customers in the Atlanta area were without power as of 6am Friday morning.
