Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus declared a state of emergency Wednesday evening following a weeklong effort to control the fire, which as of the declaration was close to 41% contained.

Over 100 New York families were asked to evacuate due to the Jennings Creek wildfire, which has been burning from Orange County to West Milford, New Jersey for over a week. According to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation,

Over 100 homes were evacuated Saturday night after winds worsened the Jennings Creek fire, New York fire officials said. Winds caused the massive fire to escape its containment lines near Edgemere Avenue in Warwick,
