The Athletic reported earlier in the week that the Mavericks had a dream of pairing Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant with their current core of Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving. SNY's Ian Begley is taking that one step further, saying the Mavs were actively engaged in talks on Wednesday, trying to make it happen.

Six days ago, we thought the best chance we had at a fun trade deadline was convincing Bradley Beal to waive his no-trade clause. Since then, Luka Dončić, Anthony Davis, Jimmy Butler, Brandon Ingram, Khris Middleton and De’Aaron Fox have been traded. Beal is still chillin’.

On Tuesday, reports emerged that the Golden State Warriors were working on a trade that would reunite them with Kevin Durant and send Jimmy Butler to the Phoenix Suns. Unfortunately, however, the deal never materialized.
