The New York Mets are giving an unusually large number of players an opportunity to earn a roster spot this spring in Grapefruit League action.

The 24-year-old, twice-drafted right-hander skyrocketed up the ranks following dominant debuts in High-A Brooklyn and Double-A Binghamton last season. Sproat enters the 2025 season as the Mets' top-ranked prospect and their most promising young arm.

Jose Butto will be utilized as a reliever in spring training, according to Mendoza. The right-hander had been a consideration to remain as part of the Mets’ starting rotation depth. Butto began working from the bullpen in July last season and was among the team’s best relievers for the final three months.
