Kohl’s is the latest retailer to announce a wave of closures set to take place over the coming year. By April, the chain plans to shutter 27 underperforming stores and an e-commerce fulfillment center in San Bernardino, California.

Kohl's said Friday it will close 27 underperforming locations in 15 states by April -- a fraction of its 1,150-store base -- as the struggling department store chain aims to boost profitability and improve sagging sales.

Macy’s and Kohl’s are closing one store each in Colorado as part of the department store chains’ plans to dump underperforming stores this year. Macy’s released a list Thursday of 66 closures that includes the store at the Northfield Stapleton shopping center in Denver.

"We always take these decisions very seriously," Kohl's CEO Tom Kingsbury said in a company press release dated Jan. 9

Kohl's is closing 27 stores across the United States. Here is the full list of store locations that will be shuttered by the end of April 2025.

Michaels CEO and retail veteran Ashley Buchanan is set to take over as the chief executive of Kohl’s next week. Buchanan will take over the top job from Tom Kingsbury, who will stay as an adviser to the new CEO and retain his position on Kohl’s board until his scheduled retirement in May.
