The former Atlanta City Council president says Mayor Andre Dickens' appointment of an interim inspector general was illegal.

ATLANTA — Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens is appointing an interim leader for the Office of the Inspector General, city leaders said on Friday. Former Atlanta Inspector General Shannon K. Manigault announced her resignation earlier this month and accused City Hall leaders of creating a retaliatory work environment.

Just days after Shannon Manigault resigned, a new head of the Atlanta Inspector General's Office has been named.

Judge Ladawn "LBJ" Blackett has been appointed to oversee the office while the city works to establish a permanent replacement.

LaDawn Blackett, an intellectual property and criminal defense lawyer, has been appointed as the interim inspector general for the City of Atlanta following the resignation of Shannon Manigault. She will begin work on Monday,

Shannon Manigault, the previous inspector general, resigned after the City Council claimed that the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) issued subpoenas that violated Georgia code.
