Indian equity benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and Nifty50, opened in red in trade on Wednesday. While BSE Sensex went below 75,600, Nifty50 was near 22,800.

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a flat start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 22,960 level, a discount of nearly 12 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.

The Indian benchmark indices opened lower on Wednesday amid mixed global cues as selling was seen in the pharma and IT sectors in the early trade.

The Indian stock markets began trading on Wednesday on a muted note. Around 9:35 AM, the BSE Sensex slipped close to 150 points and traded at 75,820.80, while the NSE Nifty50 stood under 22,900, after falling more than 50 points.

Indian markets closed flat on February 18, recovering from early losses. The Nifty 50 fell 0.08% to 22,938 points, while the Sensex gained 0.04% to 76,023 points, indicating a ’buy on the dips’ strategy among investors.

The BSE Sensex closed at 75,967.39, down 29.47 points or 0.04 per cent from its previous close on Tuesday. NTPC, Zomato, Power Grid and Tech Mahindra were the top gainers.

The Q3FY25 results for mid and small cap companies saw more downgrades compared to large caps against the previous quarter, as majority of the companies were facing either top line and margin pressures.

Since its listing on the Indian bourses, Zomato’s share price has seen a significant drop of nearly 21% so far. The company has a market cap of Rs 1.98 lakh crore. Its 52-week high stands at Rs 304.70, while the 52-week low is Rs 144.30 per share.
