It's a mutually beneficial deal as far as we're concerned. Plus, the Padres' ownership situation got a little more stability.  Still, some items remain unsettled this offseason, namely Alex Bregman's continued free agency.

Noted insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today says that Bregman, who has been linked to the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox this offseason, has no interest in a short-term deal.

Now Alex Bregman is the last slugger standing. Alonso, a franchise cornerstone since his record-setting rookie season in 2019, reportedly agreed to a two-year, $54 million deal with an opt-out after 2025.
