A Detroit woman is accused of smothering her 9-year-old son to death, burying his body in her backyard, and then moving to another state.

The mother of a 9-year-old boy is facing murder charges after prosecutors said the child was smothered to death, bound, and buried in a shallow grave behind a house in Detroit.

Along with first-degree murder, Brandee Katrice Pierce, 41, has been charged with felony murder, first-degree child abuse, tampering with evidence, and interfering with a person's death, announced Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy during a press conference Wednesday.
