Potential job losses loom at Joann's corporate offices and distribution center in Hudson, as the company navigates bankruptcy

Fabric and crafts retailer Joann is warning that layoffs are possible for more than 1,000 employees. In documents filed recently with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, the Ohio-based company said it may close facilities in Hudson and West Jefferson.

A notice filed this week applies to Joann's Distribution Center in Opelika. The distribution center's closure would result in the permanent loss of 244 jobs. Layoffs would begin on March 31. Joann is filing WARN notices in multiple states, including in Ohio which is reporting a possible loss of 475 jobs at two locations.

The layoffs of the logistics workers would begin on March 31, according to the WARN notices. Earlier this month, Joann told the state that it expects to lay off 661 employees at its corporate headquarters in Hudson if the company is unable to find a buyer.

Gordon Brothers Retail Partners LLC – the same firm that recently saved between 200 and 400 Big Lots stores from being liquidated – would serve as the "stalking horse" bidder for the Joann Inc. assets in bankruptcy court, providing a floor for any future bids.
