Two of Missouri’s nine Planned Parenthood clinics are poised to start performing regularly-scheduled surgical abortions next week.

Officials at Planned Parenthood Great Rivers are awaiting approval of what’s known as a complication plan before offering medication abortions again.

After a lot of back and forth over the issue, abortions are being provided in Missouri after Amendment 3 passed last election.

The Planned Parenthood clinic in Columbia will begin offering abortions the first week of March. It marks the first time in nine years mid-Missourians will have access to the procedure without having to drive to St. Louis, Kansas City or outside the state.

The circuit court judge wrote that the regulations were unnecessary and the licensing requirement for abortion clinics was discriminatory.

Only surgical abortions will be offered initially as the clinics await state approval to restart medication abortions.
